Africa-Press – Angola. The Border Guard Police (PGF) in Lunda-Norte prevented, over the weekend, attempts at the illegal entry of 569 citizens from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) into Angolan territory, with the aim of settling in areas of exploitation of diamonds and reach the capital of the country, Luanda.

According to a note from the National Police released yesterday, the immigrants, accompanied by 104 children, were expelled from the border posts in Chissanda, Tchicolondo and Lóvua. The immigrants, the note continues, tried to use “fiotes” paths without the supervision of the PGF agents. Their arrest only occurred due to the complaint of citizens residing along the border.

The Police appeals to the population to continue collaborating with the authorities, denouncing, above all, the aid to immigration.

The province of Lunda-Norte shares a border of about 770 kilometers with the DRC.

Prisoners benefit from the Amnesty Law

Under Law 35/22 of 23 March, the Amnesty Law, enacted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, 38 inmates who were serving sentences at the Cacanda Prison, Lunda-Norte province, were recently released. The information was provided, yesterday, in Dundo, by the presiding judge of the District Court of Chitato, Baptista Nguenzo, stressing that the process is continuous and in the coming days more inmates will benefit from the aforementioned Law.

He made it known that so far, more than 100 inmates of the Cacanda Prison have already benefited from the Law.

According to the judge, this and other measures will help reduce excessive overcrowding in the prison.

The establishment, designed for 480 prisoners, continues to experience overcrowding, currently housing 574 inmates.
