Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, reiterated the need to reinforce economic diplomacy, in an efficient and proactive manner, to raise Angola’s prestige and promote tourism.
The official expressed words of welcome on the occasion of the IX Extended Consultative Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), opened this Tuesday, in Luanda, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
For Téte António, the strengthening of economic diplomacy aims at attracting and attracting foreign private investment to Angola, taking into account the process of diversification of the national economy.
According to the minister, the success of Angolan diplomacy depends on the ability to materialize the Executive’s strategy and attract foreign investment, for different spheres, with emphasis on tourism.
In his speech, the minister spoke of the title of Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, awarded by the African Union (AU) to the Angolan President, João Lourenço.
For him, this title constitutes a milestone of recognition of the AU that enhances Angola and its diplomatic action.
“The country assumed the presidency of the CIRGL, CPLP, OEACP and, within a few months, it should also assume the presidency of SADC”, he underlined.
On the other hand, the minister defended the continuous training of staff at the Diplomatic Academy, including employees of diplomatic and consular missions, from top to bottom.
“Right now, the training course for first, second and third secretaries is taking place and, as soon as this Consultative Council ends, training will begin for recently appointed ambassadors, including their spouses, to better serve”, he said.
The advisory council takes place under the motto “MIREX and Angolan diplomatic action in the current international context: challenges and perspectives” and aims to carry out a periodic assessment of performance in the field of foreign policy and diplomacy.
The event, which ends on Thursday (the 13th), also aims to assess the degree of coordination between MIREX structures and government partners, plan activities for the current year, reinforce internal organization and analyze the main issues of international politics.
The last council was held in 2019, under the motto “reform and training, a forward-looking vision”.
Created on November 12, 1975, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the ministerial department responsible for assisting the President of the Republic in the coordination, formulation, planning, execution and evaluation of foreign policy and international cooperation, in all its aspects.
It is also up to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to defend the country’s interests and protect the rights of its citizens abroad.
