Africa-Press – Angola. With the aim of drawing up strategies to combat organized crime, the provincial commanders of the National Police in Benguela, commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, and the commander of the Central Military Region, lieutenant general Paulo Xavier, met this Tuesday, in this town.

Recently appointed, Paulo Xavier, said that his trip to Benguela province aims to deepen existing cooperation ties between Defense and Security bodies, within the scope of efforts to combat organized crime and guarantee the proper functioning of State institutions.

According to the Lieutenant-General, the missions of the Angolan Armed Forces and the National Police are different, but pursue common objectives, hence the strengthening of cooperation.

The MRC region includes the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Cuanza Sul, but, taking into account its specificities, the land of Acacias Rubras is the strategic center of attention, he added.

On the occasion, the provincial commander of the PN in Benguela, commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, made a presentation of the public security situation in the province, considering it calm from the point of view of serious crimes.

According to the official commissioner, there is a crime that has to do with robberies and thefts on public roads, with emphasis on the so-called “snatching”, as well as road accidents that are already becoming a huge concern.

He also referred to some serious crimes, such as sexual violations (which occur on a smaller scale), with emphasis on peripheral areas due to the lack of public lighting and other factors that encourage crime.

Aristófanes dos Santos made it known that thefts and robberies occur in the urban area, especially in coastal cities, taking into account the population density.

He informed the new commander of the Central Military Region about the functionality of the Integrated Center for Public Security, which has been helping the defense and security bodies, as well as the justice bodies.

The courtesy meeting was witnessed by members of the PN and MININT advisory boards, as well as the aforementioned military region.
