Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly (AN) is preparing the conditions to host, in October this year, the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP).
For this purpose, the AN created, this Tuesday, a commission to be coordinated by the President of the hemicycle, Carolina Cerqueira, with deputy coordinator Idalina Valente, while deputy Kilamba Van-dúnem is the coordinator of the Executive Secretariat, integrating and the 2nd vice-president of the NA, deputy Arleth Chimbinda.
The organization of this event is based on an agreement signed between AN and the IPU Secretariat, in March 2023, Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, where the parties undertake to promote exchange through solidarity, consultation and dialogue , in favor of the well-being and improvement of the social conditions of the populations.
At the time, Carolina Cerqueira assumed the responsibility and commitment of AN, once again, to dignify the country, holding an event that represents the weight of the Angolan parliament in the regional and international context, a strong, democratic, gender-sensitive parliament, engaged in the defense of ecology and, above all, one that responds to the anxieties, concerns and dreams of Angolans.
According to Carolina Cerqueira, the human, material and technical conditions were being created, with a dynamic, participative and engaged human framework and deputies who will show the experience of organization.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is made up of 178 national parliaments and 12 regional assemblies. It is currently the main parliamentary interlocutor of the United Nations.
