Africa-Press – Angola. Agricultural cooperatives in the municipality of Bundas, in the province of Moxico, complain about the difficulty in transporting products from the countryside to the city, due to the lack of means of transport.
This concern was presented yesterday to the provincial governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, in a meeting he held with local producers, as part of a working visit he made to that municipality.
According to the president of the Gika cooperative, Augusto Tchipatela, who annually produces around 50 tons of different goods, with emphasis on rice, corn, tomatoes and beans, in an area of 300 hectares, said that in addition to the transport problem, the Farmers lack tractors to help with land preparation.
Albertina Muaimba, who is dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables, lamented the high price charged by the few transport operators that circulate in the region, in the process of transporting the products.
The lack of fertilizers, irrigation means and insecticides are other concerns added by the head of the Panga Uwane cooperative, Kufuna Yakomba, who expects to harvest 45 tonnes of horticultural products at the end of the current agricultural season.
In turn, the provincial governor, Ernesto Muangala, highlighted the region’s agricultural strengths, promising support with means of production to leverage local production.
In another meeting, with members of the consultation councils of that municipality, the government official reiterated that the executive remains focused on resolving the social problems that afflict the population.
The government official reacted to a memorandum produced by the local population, which states the need to rehabilitate roads, build more classrooms, health units, as well as improve the supply of electricity and water in the municipality.
The municipality of Bundas, located 356 kilometers south of the city of Luena, has more than 85 thousand inhabitants, distributed in the communes of Mussuma Mitete, Sessa, Lumbala-Nguimbo (headquarters), Chiúme, Ninda and Luvuei.
