Africa-Press – Angola. The secretary of the PRS in Huambo province, António Soliya Selende, this Wednesday called for an effort between the local government and ENDE to improve the distribution of electricity within the different neighbourhoods.
The party member, who was speaking at the end of a visit to the board of the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) in Huambo province, said that, despite the improvements registered in the national electricity sector, several neighborhoods are still in the dark.
He highlighted the lack of electricity in the interior of the Cavongue, Etunda, Quissala and Munda Paiva neighbourhoods, both on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, as well as several locations in the municipalities of Longonjo and Londuimbali.
António Soliya Selende also asked for greater urgent interaction between ENDE and the administrations of Caála and Huambo, for public lighting on the road that connects the two locations.
Among the solutions, he pointed out the reduction of bureaucracy in investments in the country’s electricity sector, so that municipalities can make investments according to the needs of the population, such as the purchase of generators and other maintenance equipment.
For his part, the director of ENDE in Huambo province, Manuel Nascimento, without giving figures, said that the company has several projects aimed at meeting the lack of electricity for the local population.
ENDE controls over 94,000 consumers in Huambo province, a figure still below demand, taking into account the population density of this region of the country, estimated at over two million 600 thousand inhabitants, located in 11 municipalities and 37 communes.
