Africa-Press – Angola. The Fiscal Office of Dondo, municipality of Cambambe, Cuanza Norte, started this Thursday, in this city, a campaign to inform taxpayers about the right to claim for non-compliance with the measures applied by them.
The campaign, with an indefinite duration, according to the head of that department, Carlos Segundo, aims to encourage taxpayers to make a culture of complaining about tax litigation, to the General Tax Administration (AGT), if they feel wronged.
The action is based on permanent contact with taxpayers, especially economic agents, with a view to clarifying them about this possibility.
At the end of a clarification meeting with local traders, he referred that the AGT bases its assessment on its own legislation, but reserves the right of the taxpayer to justify the lack or delay in which he is involved and negotiate an agreement.
He clarified that many taxpayers are unaware of this benefit that the law offers and are subject to fines or tax foreclosure proceedings.
The campaign will expose the legal complaint mechanisms, in case of notifications or sanctions for non-compliance with obligations, aiming to promote tax justice.
“The AGT, despite being an institution devoted to the collection of tax contributions, safeguards the interests of citizens, hence the promotion of this campaign, which aims to maintain balance in the relations between the parties”, he stressed.
He clarified that the imposition of fines on the taxable amount results from delay or the failure of taxpayers, which can be mitigated through negotiation, without prejudice to the law.
To this end, he continued, those concerned must state the reasons for the default, so that they can negotiate the debt.
At the circumscription level, the AGT instructs, on average, 30 tax execution processes/month, which could be avoided with dialogue.
Calos Segundo said, on the other hand, that the institution is concerned with avoiding tax enforcement processes, given the serious consequences they entail, such as heavy fines, coercive collections and seizure of assets.
He argued that such a situation could change people’s way of life.
