Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan authorities have expressed their adherence to the initiatives of the “Blue Skies and Net Zero” campaign, developed by the Global Institute for Green Growth (GGGI). Thursday, in Luanda, the institution’s director for Africa, Malle Fofana.
The fact was referred to the press, at the end of an audience that the vice-president of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, granted to the head of the institution.
In his statements, Malle Fofana hailed the actions and dynamism of the Angolan authorities in this field of environmental protection, which led to the choice of the country for the opening of the referred campaign.
In the view of this official, there is already a firm political commitment by the national authorities towards the protection of the environment.
“Blue Skies and Net Zero” consists of the implementation of actions to combat pollution and results from one of the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, related to pollution, combined with the recommendations of the General Assembly of the Environment of 2022.
Actions in the environmental field
Angola already has specific legislation in this field, such as the National Program for Environmental Quality, which includes air, water and soil components, and for this campaign, in particular, it has the air component, which involves combating pollution in cities and rural areas and beyond.
Likewise, there is also the Presidential Order on the Promotion of Green Spaces, which extends to the level of municipalities, as well as the national programs for Environmental Standardization and Environmental Technologies, all within the framework of the National Strategy for Climate Change.
The GGGI is an international intergovernmental organization, of which Angola has been a member since 2019, based on treaties dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
The organization also provides support, with regard to institutional capacity building, raising funds for the implementation of projects, as well as promoting actions so that cities can become greener, taking into account the objective of mitigating the harmful effects of actions such as pollution.

Among the different projects developed in the country, emphasis goes to the construction of the Cafu canal, which aims to improve access to water in the communities, the Renewable Energy Programme, launched in Benguela, the Soyo Combined Cycle, the Laúca project, as well as the Mayombe initiative, which can be considered as the “keys” of the country’s actions in this field.
