Africa-Press – Angola. Young people from the municipality of Cambambe, Cuanza Norte province, highlighted, this Friday, in Dondo, the free movement of people and goods, the growth of the school network, as gains from peace, achieved on April 4, 2002 .
Regarding the 14th of April – Angolan Youth Day, which is celebrated yesterday, the young people highlighted the importance of maintaining and preserving peace, as a development factor.
The civil servant, Hélder Casal, 21 years old, emphasized that after long years of struggle for the conquest of National Independence, it was up to the youth to preserve territorial integrity.
He referred that, with the conquest of peace, Angola has been adding immeasurable gains, with the construction of economic and social infrastructures, for the benefit of the youth.
He highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of roads, health units and the creation of new higher education institutions, as other achievements that are making young people proud and allowing youth to increase their academic and professional level.
Car driver Januário Pedro, 33, pointed to the emergence of new housing areas and the country’s demining process, as factors that exalt the youth’s commitment to Angola’s stability.
He recalled how difficult it was to travel on the country’s roads in isolation in the past, due to the risk of attacks by armed men.
On his turn, the president of the Municipal Council of Cambambe da Juventude (CMJ), Segredo Africano, looks with pride at the accomplishments of those who were directly linked to the pacification process in Angola, providing the youth with an environment of stability.
He underlined that over the 21 years of peace, young people have been able to deal with the challenges imposed by society, such as associativism, promotion of philanthropic actions, academic training and professional technique, all aimed at self-realization of youth.
Alongside these initiatives, he is of the opinion that greater attention should be paid to home building projects and the promotion of employment.
He also suggested expanding education to other regions of the country, with a view to reducing training costs and preventing young people from traveling to other locations in search of training.
He appealed to the authorities not to see public demonstrations by young people as subversive acts, but as a means of demanding the fulfillment of their aspirations.
He stressed that the CMJ is committed to promoting dialogue with this fringe of society, looking forward to a better future, where each young person is called to develop actions in favor of community development.
The date was instituted by the Angolan authorities, as Youth Day, in honor of its patron, José Mendes de Carvalho, or simply, Hojiya-Henda, killed during the National Liberation War, during the assault on the Karipande barracks, in the province of Moxico, on April 14, 1968.
