Africa-Press – Angola. The 11th edition of the school games in the Central Region ended this Friday, in Ndalatando, Cuanza Norte province.
The event, held under the motto “School sports, a contribution to the promotion of health and well-being”, was attended by 625 youth athletes, of both sexes.
Competitors from the modalities of handball, basketball, volleyball, football, athletics and long jump from the provinces of Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Benguela, Huambo and Bié participated.
Promoted by the Ministry of Education, the competition, which started on the 5th, aimed to select representatives from the Center Region for the final of the XI edition of the national school games for the 2022/2023 season, to be held in August in Luanda.
In football, the region will be represented by Cuanza Norte, Huambo and Cuanza Sul, in Male. As for women, in Cuanza Norte, Huambo and Benguela.
The women’s handball in Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul and Huambo. For men, Bié is added.
Volleyball, for men, in the provinces of Bié, Cuanza Sul and Cuanza Norte and for women in Cuanza Sul, Bié and Huambo.
Men’s basketball for Cuanza Norte, Bié and Huambo and women’s basketball for Cuanza Norte, Benguela and Bié.
As for individual modalities, in both sexes, athletics will be represented by athletes from the provinces of Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul and Huambo, while the long jump will be represented by Huambo, Bié and Benguela.
At the close of the event, the Cuanza Norte provincial vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Luzia da Silva Bartolomeu José, said that the games helped to build values such as cooperation, solidarity and healthy competition in students.
He underlined that the Angolan Executive attaches great social importance to school sports, as it represents a fundamental element in education for citizenship.
The next edition of the Centro Region school games will be organized by Cuanza Sul.
