Africa-Press – Angola. The agri-food trade of the European Union (EU) grew, in 2022, to a value of 401.5 billion euros and recorded a surplus of 58 billion euros, compared to 2021.
According to information released by the European Commission, exports of agri-food products from the EU to the rest of the world increased by 31 percent, compared to 2021, to a value of 229.8 billion euros (ME), with emphasis on cereals, cereal preparations and milling products, which increased by 7 percent and 10 respectively.
On the other hand, the EU sold more wheat to developing countries, namely Algeria (4.9 million tons), Morocco (4.1 million tons), Egypt (2.9 million tons) and Nigeria (2.5 million tons ).
Imports, for their part, increased by 31 percent in value, to 172 billion euros, which Brussels explains by the rise in world prices, particularly for oil products and coffee.
Brazil was the main exporter to the EU (12 percent), followed by the United Kingdom (9) and Ukraine (8), with the United States falling back to fourth place.
In 2021, EU agri-food trade was worth a total of €328.1 billion, with a trade surplus of €67.9 billion.
