Africa-Press – Angola. The new Angolan ambassador to the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Dúnem, intends to work with community associations, in order to ensure greater proximity to Angolans residing in that country.
“We are going to reinforce the work with community associations, in order to be present in the lives of Angolans, but also to take advantage of our communities to achieve our political and diplomatic objectives”, he told journalists on the sidelines of the IX Extended Consultative Council of the Ministry of Relations Exteriors.
Recently appointed by the President of the Republic to head the diplomatic mission in the United States, Agostinho Van-Dúnem advanced the intention of exploring other catalyst sectors to meet one of the main objectives of economic diplomacy.
Without going into details, he pointed to the mobilization of foreign investment to the country, through the promotion of economic and cultural tourism. The exchange of experience in this sense, he stressed, can be an innovative factor in the mobilization of resources for Angola.
Questioned about the new challenge, the ambassador said that there is a set of matters with which cooperation between the two States is traditional, with emphasis on issues of peace and security, as well as world trade. In this regard, Angola intends to continue interacting with the American administration and see the mutual advantages between both grow.
On the other hand, he added, still in the context of world peace and security, Angola will continue to be a State that defends the resolution of conflicts through dialogue.
“We look forward to collaborating and receiving the cooperation and understanding of the United States of America,” he said.
As for the number of Angolans residing in the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Dúnem estimated that, at the moment, there are approximately 200 Angolans in the state of Washington alone.
“We are now going to do this work of updating the number of Angolans residing in different states and maintain a policy of greater information. ”, he said in relation to other states.
Regarding the situation of the Angolan community in the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Dúnem said he has a general notion that there has been a more intense work on rapprochement.
“The Embassies have been closer, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to do more. There are countries, for example, where citizens live in precarious situations, due to the migratory situation”, he admitted.
As for the functioning of diplomatic missions, a matter raised by the President of the Republic, at the opening of the Consultative Council, having defended a more parsimonious management of resources and for more support to Angolan communities, Agostinho Van-Dúnem said that, from the management point of view , “the United States of America is doing well”.
“I would say, in general, that the diplomatic missions have improved. This work of more parsimonious management and better management of our assets has been done for some years now”, he acknowledged.
Heritage across borders, he added, was also subject to reassessment, so that it becomes an essential part for the performance of the duties of diplomatic missions.
“We will continue on this path to better manage public resources and make them more efficient for what are the objectives we intend to achieve”, concluded Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem.
