Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan driver Rui Andrade, in a prototype like the Team WRT, won third place, at the 6 hours Internacional de Portimão, in Portugal, in the LMP 2 class of the 2nd race of the 2023 season of the FIA Endurance World Cup, on the circuit local.

In this second race of the World Endurance Championship, played on Sunday, victory went to Toyota and it leads the world championship, in which the Portuguese António Félix da Costa (Jota) was fifth in LMP2.

The Toyota with the number eight, piloted by the Swiss Sebastien Buemi, the New Zealander Brendon Hartley and the Japanese Ryo Hirakawa, crossed the finish line with 222 completed laps, leaving the Ferrari of the Italian Antonio Fuoco, the Spaniard Miguel Molina and the Danish Nicklas Nielsen in second , one turn.

The Porsche of André Lotterer, Kevin Ester and Laurens Vanthoor was third, also a lap behind.

Buemi, who started from ‘pole position’, lost the lead at the start to the British Mike Conway, teammate in the other Toyota. Buemi even dropped back to third after the poor start, but it took just two laps to regain the lead.

The other Toyota, who had won the previous race in Sebring (United States), had to go to the pits due to a sensor problem and, as a result, lost seven laps, being the last of the hypercars.

Already in LMP2, the Portuguese António Félix da Costa said goodbye to this category (he will drive a Porsche in the hypercars) with a fifth place, 31.723 seconds from the winner, the Oreca from United Autosports of Joshua Pierson, Giedo van der Garde and Oliver Jarvis.

The driver from Cascais says that now “it’s time to turn the page and start a new and challenging chapter” in hypercars, starting with the next round, the 6 Hours of Spa.

The Portuguese Pedro Ramos, Guilherme Oliveira and Matteo Cairoli, from Project1, finished sixth in the GTE.

The next race will take place on April 29, in Belgium.
