Africa-Press – Angola. Citizens in the city of Ndalatando, capital of Cuanza Norte, defended Tuesday, the urgent adoption of public policies that impose greater rigor in the sale of packaged alcoholic beverages.
Some citizens questioned disapproved of the disorderly sale of packaged alcoholic beverages in any corner of the city, above all, next to schools, hospitals and even churches, as factors that change the social behavior of many citizens, in addition to constituting cause of various diseases.
Doctor Fidel Hebo warned of the proliferation of the sale and consequent consumption of hot drinks with high dosage, as the main cause of various gastric, psychological and mental illnesses for consumer citizens.
He defended greater rigor in the inspection of the sale of the aforementioned drinks, due to the fact that there was an increase in children and adolescents consuming alcohol, given the ease of acquisition that the market presents.
In turn, the sociologist Lubiavanga Tunico pointed to the increase in crime rates, the constant fights between youth groups and the degradation of moral values in society, as being the cause of the abusive consumption of alcoholic beverages, mostly sold at public auctions, without any regulation by related authorities.
Lubiavanga Tunico defended the increase in taxes for alcoholic beverage merchants, the prohibition of the sale of alcohol near schools and the reduction in the importation of drinks of dubious origin, as urgent measures to contain the increase in consumption and its consequences in society.
Samuel Bento is a street vendor of whiskeys and sells at a price of 50 to 100 kwanzas per package. He said that he sells an average of 80 units or packets daily, whose most popular brands are best, ox head and coconut.
The citizen Cristóvão Neto said he is a consumer of these drinks because he is attracted by the price, because, instead of buying a beer that costs 200 kwanzas, he prefers four packages that guarantee stimulation in a short time.
Although aware of the health consequences, he said that he consumes an average of 10 to 15 packs of whiskeys a day.
The low price is identified as the main cause of the increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages in packets, given that a pack of 20 units costs an average of between 650 and 850 kwanzas, with more than 20 brands or references from various sources, such as – Best, Tropa, Vodka, Anana, Faiva, Goa, Coco, America, Palanca and Blaca.
