Africa-Press – Angola. The year-on-year rate of change in the Construction Material Price Index (IPMC) for March 2023, compared to March 2022, stood at 8.0%, announced the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to the Construction Materials Price Index (IPMC), published by INE, there is also a variation of 0.9% in March 2023, compared to February 2023, with an increase of 0.2 points percentages, in relation to that registered in the previous month.

INE says that in year-on-year variations, among the groups of building materials, “wood and plywood” was the one that recorded the biggest increase in prices with 14.6%, followed by “crushed stone and marble” with 12.5%, “ sand” with 11.6%, “Plastic Piping and Accessories” with 11.5%.

Also included are “glass and glassware” with 10.9%, “blocks” with 10.1%, “synthetic products” with 10.0%, “ready-mixed concrete” with 9.8%, “beams, joists and slats” with 9.2%, “bricks” and “steel” with 8.9% each, “aluminium” with 7.2%, “other synthetic products” with 6.7% and “cement and binders” with 3. 6%.

The report says that the groups of materials that most contributed to the change in the IPMC for the month of March are “Steel”, with 0.4 percentage points, followed by “ready-mixed concrete” and “cement and binders”, with 0.2 percentage points. each and “blocks” with 0.1 percentage point.

The markets and collection establishments for the index were formal and informal, where materials intended for the construction of housing, residential and non-residential buildings, roads and other infrastructure works are sold.

The price of construction materials is an important indicator for the construction market, as it is through its variation that it is possible to identify the degree of intensity of activities in the construction sector.

The aforementioned indicator aims to measure the evolution of the prices of materials of national and imported origin, which participate in the construction activity and which are sold in the national market.

It also aims to serve as a fundamental element for updating budgets for construction works, using polynomial formulas for each type of work, as well as deflecting nominal or current values.
