Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Domingos Eduardo, admitted yesterday, Wednesday, that there is weak control by society, especially young people, regarding the role of the Ombudsman, and defended greater awareness of invert the frame.

The official made this statement during the opening of the Week of the Ombudsman, which runs until the 28th, as part of the 18th anniversary since his institutionalization that marks yesterday.

Domingos Eduardo encouraged the Provincial Services to develop actions to publicize the body’s operating mechanisms using social networks, promoting debates in schools, churches, informal markets and other places of greater population concentration, to improve interaction with citizens.

He made it known that the Ombudsman is a crucial entity in guaranteeing the defense of citizens’ rights, but whose mission depends on the collaboration of all, through denunciation of acts or omissions practiced mainly by public entities.

On the other hand, he said that the administration of justice in the country is still facing difficulties that have limited the performance of its operators and created a feeling of lethargy, which is why the Executive has made efforts to improve the working conditions, logistics and human resources of the sector.

Meanwhile, the head of the Provedoria da Justiça Provincial Services in Malanje, Manuel Campo, recalled that the body was set up a year and four months ago in the region, during which it received 120 complaints, most of which were linked to procedural delays, evasion of paternity and occupational accidents.

He stressed that talks are underway with traditional and religious authorities, youth organizations, with a view to bringing to their knowledge the role of the ombudsman.

The Ombudsman is an independent public entity whose object is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, ensuring, through informal means, justice and legality of the activity of the Public Administration.

The initial reception of this institution in the Angolan legal system was given by the Constitutional Law of 1992 and, later, by article 192 of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
