Meanwhile, cultural agents Bernardino Felizardo and Kibuku Kianjinje pointed to the lack of access to historic sites as one of the main factors impeding their proper exploitation, which is why they asked for government intervention in the rehabilitation of roads, so that they are increasingly visited and serve as sources of revenue for the State.
They underlined the importance of monuments in defending the cultural matrix of a people, hence the need for continuous preservation and enhancement.
Created by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982, World Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated annually on 18 April.
The date aims to highlight the importance of monuments and sites in the history and identity of peoples, as well as calling for their preservation and enhancement.
