Africa-Press – Angola. Nine Angolan citizens are facing charges at the District Court of Chitato, Lunda Norte province, for aiding illegal immigration, said this Wednesday, in Dundo, the provincial director of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) Adriano Gonçalves.
According to the official who was speaking at the commemorations of the 47th anniversary of the SME, 49 foreign citizens, two Malians, one Zambian, two Eritreans and 34 from the DRC, are also liable in court for illegally entering and staying in the national territory.
He added that in 2022, the SME detained 8,860 foreign citizens of different nationalities, for illegal stay, having repatriated 8,890 to their countries of origin.
He made it known that 40 lawsuits are awaiting a court decision.
Currently, the SME controls 3,739 foreign citizens of different nationalities, 192 with residence permits, 859 with work visas, 290 with temporary stay visas and 2,398 asylum seekers and refugees.
On the other hand, it reported that in 2022, a total of 757 processes for issuing and remitting passports were received and sent to the central SME, as well as a total of 332 requests for residence permits, work visas, revalidation of residency, extension of work, stay and tourist visas.
In the Lóvua camp, the SME controls 6,490 refugees from the DRC, of which 3,939 are children.
Since 2017, when refugees from the DRC entered Angola, a total of 1,765 children have been born in the national territory, of which 1,410 have benefited from civil registration.
The day alluding to the event took place under the motto “SME 47 years – committed to modernization to better serve” and involved recreational and social activities.
