Africa-Press – Angola. The rehabilitation works of the Church of S. Tiago Maior de Lândana, in Cabinda province, will preserve the architectural image of the infrastructure, said the provincial secretary of Culture, Ernesto Barros André.

Ernesto Barros André, underlined that architectural studies and drawings are currently being carried out by the construction company that won the public tender.

Located in Vila de Lândana, municipality of Cacongo, about 45 km north of Cabinda, the Temple, which has become national cultural heritage, will have its original architectural image replaced in replica during the rehabilitation works.

Ernesto André said that the replica element was the basis of many discussions and consultations between the Church, the Government and Catholic faithful, due to the absence of original documents such as the plan and location sketches.

The Igreja S.Tiago Maior de Lândana, with almost 115 years of existence, a state of accentuated degradation of the main pillars that supported the front part of the tower and the clock.

Considered one of the greatest emblems of the history of the beginning of Christianity in this part of the national territory, the infrastructure is one of the mascots of tourism in the province, taking into account its ancestral architectural style, with glass that dates back more than 110 years.

Its construction dates back to 1900, having been completed four years later (1904). It was the first temple to be founded by the Spirituan missionaries in Angola, on July 25, 1873.
