Africa-Press – Angola. The prices of civil construction materials charged in commercial establishments in the city of Luena, Moxico province, registered a reduction of around 20%o, in the interval of five months.
Compared to the last finding made, in the period in question, the prices of materials recorded a lightening of around 14 to 20%.
For example, a bag of cement is currently being sold at 4,300 kwanzas, against 500,000 last November, while a 60/60 mosaic box dropped from 7,500 to 6,000 kwanzas.
The cost of the six-meter zinc sheet followed the same trend, dropping from 10,000 to 8,000 kzs, equivalent to 20%, while the 20-litre paint bucket was reduced to 6,000 kzs, against the 7,000 kzs previously practiced.
Rebars, one of the most requested materials in civil construction, behaved the same way, with the 12 centimeter one currently costing four thousand, against the previous five thousand, while the 10 cm one fell from three thousand and 500 to two thousand and 800 kwanzas.
In reaction, the managers of commercial establishments in Luena stated that the reduction in the prices of materials was due to the fact that there had been a reduction in the acquisition of products from China.
Despite this, trader Vieira Loló said that the costs of transporting materials from the country’s capital (Luanda) to Moxico continue to influence the rise in prices.
The price of freight for a containerized truck remains above one million kwanzas, due to the poor state of the National Road (EN180), on the Luanda-Malange-Saurimo and Luena route.
