Africa-Press – Angola. The outgoing ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Florêncio de Almeida, was decorated, this Thursday (20th), in Brasília, with the Sovereign Order of Merit of Entrepreneur Juscelino Kubitschek, the Society’s highest distinction Brazilian.
According to a press release from the Embassy, the ceremony, which took place at the Auditorium Nereu Ramos, of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, and organized by the Brazilian Academy of Honors to Merit, constituted a Tribute to Juscelino Kubitschek – Exaltation to Entrepreneurship, within the framework of the Commemorations of the 63rd Anniversary of the Foundation of Brasilia, the Federal Capital.
When speaking on the occasion, the federal deputy, Roberto Monteiro, chairman of the event board, highlighted the achievements of Juscelino Kubitschek, having recognized the need for greater rapprochement between Portuguese-speaking countries.
On his turn, Ambassador Florêncio de Almeida, in thanking the distinction, highlighted the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Angola and Brazil, particularizing the recent holding of the Mixed Commission, in Brasília, as a historic moment that served to strengthen and relaunch the political-diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In addition to the Angolan diplomat, other diplomatic and Brazilian personalities were also distinguished during the ceremony, which was well attended.
On April 21, 1960, under the leadership of Juscelino Kubitschek , Brasília, the federal capital, was born for the world and for Brazilians, a modern, innovative project and considered one of the greatest works of the 20th century, a cultural piece of humanity.
Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola’s independence, in 1975.
