Africa-Press – Angola. The representative of the 27 families from Zango1(sectorA) displaced by the last rains, Caridade Domingos, said this Monday in Luanda that a deep intervention in the retention basin will solve the problem of floods that occur periodically.

The suggestion was presented during a round carried out, days after consecutive rains, which left many areas of Luanda submerged, and some hydrographic basins overflowed.

According to the resident of the so-called EPAL zone, the state of the channel that drains the water to the retention basin is the big problem, because with its degradation, the waters return and invade the residences, so they request a background intervention in it.

For themselves, the company that built the houses had left a margin between them and the ditch, but that over time was collapsing leaving the residences very close to the water line, for 18 years and without any intervention the ditch became a ravine.

“When it rains with great intensity, all the residences are underwater, for this reason the administration must carry out a deep work to improve the situation of the residents of the Torres da EPAL area”, he said.

Another area of great concern to the citizens, according to ANGOP’s findings, is the ditch that drains the water on the main road of Zango which, due to discontinuity at some points, and the deposition of solid waste, causes it to overflow and leave some areas flooded.

In Zango 5, the rains are not of great concern to the residents, since, according to them, the floods are circumstantial and that after the rains stop the waters run off, but the channels must be revised so that they drain quickly in case of a long rain.

On the other hand, the great concern of the residents is related to the progression of the ravines, which have advanced a lot with the last rains and which are already about 100 meters from the houses.

The round also passed through Vida Pacifica, where the floods were also circumstantial due to the greater volume of water from the last rains.

Without recording an interview, the technicians in service only informed that they work on the restructuring of the basin and maintenance of the nonsense system.
