Africa-Press – Angola. The General Director of the National Service for Copyright and Related Rights (SENEDIAC), Barros Licencia, said this Monday in Luanda that piracy contributes to poor revenue collection.

Factors such as the reduction of jobs, the credible provision of services, company failures were pointed out by the official as consequences caused by piracy.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of a seminar on “The growth of Piracy in Angola: Effects and Consequences”, promoted by SENEDIAC, the director did not advance any damage, having referred that actions take place daily, many unconsciously.

According to the director, piracy harms right holders and society in general, causing a decrease in the number of customers, due to the offer of pirated services made available to interested parties.

Barros Licencia said that the protection of intellectual property is carried out in a systemic way, with the intervention of various bodies, such as SIC, AGT and the Court.

In his view, the solidity of the Institutions with regard to protection is also a way of encouraging foreign investment, as it generates investor confidence in the country’s intuitions.

Regarding the objectives of the seminar, he referred that it is to disclose to artists the methods of protection against piracy.

For her part, the person in charge of TV Cabo in Angola, Estefania de Sousa, said that piracy is constantly experienced by TV Cabo, in an action carried out by unauthorized people who transmit the signal, through a decoder, to other interested parties, broadcasting with low quality. and cause “serious economic damage”.

For the director of Corporate and Legal Affairs at ZAP, Heródoto Crispim, it is necessary to strengthen synergies with public and private institutions in order to stop this evil that has been going on for some time.

Acting Secretary of the National Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC), Diogo Sebastião, the musical class is the most affected by such practices, claiming that at a time when there is constant technological development it is difficult to get around the phenomenon.

The judge in charge of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Trade Room of the Luanda Comarca Court, Venâncio Samuel, said that there are few processes inherent to Intellectual Property, caused by the lack of legal culture and people’s knowledge of the existence of this room.

According to Venâncio Samuel, holding the seminar is beneficial for promoting the protection of these rights.

He added that the room of the Intellectual Property Court has existed for three years.
