Africa-Press – Angola. This statement was made by the Deputy Director General of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, Emmanuel Caboco, Saturday, in Mbanza Kongo.
According to this senior official from the Ministry of Culture, this assessment was made by UNESCO itself, based on its periodic monitoring visits that it has been carrying out in Mbanza Kongo since the registration of this city.
The Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo, capital of the former Kingdom of Kongo and current provincial seat of Zaire, was inscribed on the UNESCO list, on July 8, 2017, given its exceptional tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
He highlighted, among the recommendations already met or being fulfilled, the removal of the metallic antennas of the telecommunications and radio operators in the center of the city of Mbanza Kongo.
Also included in the recommendations listed by the head of the Ministry of Culture, the construction of the new Mbanza Kongo airport, outside the urban perimeter, an ongoing project, as well as the periodic holding of the Kongo International Culture Festival (FESTIKONGO), in Mbanza Kongo.
He also highlighted the actions of urban regeneration and tourism promotion which, in his opinion, still need to be fine-tuned and improved to provide a certain balance.
According to the source, the fulfillment of these and other demands depends, to a large extent, on the involvement of all sectors of society in the region and in the country.
Emmanuel Caboco has been in Mbanza Kongo since last Wednesday, as part of the celebration of the 5th of May, African World Heritage Day, an event marked by a lecture given by him.
His lecture was on “The Natural and Cultural Heritage of Africa Beyond Borders; The Conservation and Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage”.
Instituted through the 38th General Conference of the United Nations (UN), held in 2015, the date aims at the conservation and promotion of the African world heritage.
