Angola proposes “STEM Education” for Africa

Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic proposed a “STEM Teaching – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths” for the African continent as a way of leveraging development and because he understands that countries that have developed rapidly have this model of Education as a common denominator.

Speaking on Wednesday at the extraordinary session of the Committee of Ambassadors from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, on the occasion of the visit to the OEACP headquarters in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, Bornito de Sousa, representing the Head of State, João Lourenço, reiterated Angola’s commitment to holding the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP), having taken important steps in this direction.

Steps such as the creation of a working group on the presidential initiative, the ratification and deposit of the letter of ratification of the agreement, as well as the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the hosting of this 10th Summit, to be held in December of this year, in Luanda, are just a few cited, considering that they “certify the commitment and engagement of the Republic of Angola”.

Bornito de Sousa said that Angola will devote particular attention to two topics: “Peace and Security and Governance” and “Education, culture, training employment and migration and mobility”.

In relation to Education, Culture and Vocational Training, Migration and Mobility, he highlighted the engagement and importance of investing in youth, a topic that, within the framework of this Summit, takes into account the notes and commitments made at the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the 2017 AU-EU.

“We were here within the framework of the ACP-European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly, in which we came to assume the position of co-vice-presidents, and we ended with the 18th meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, in Luanda , from 28 November to 3 December 2009, which was, in fact, the culmination of our modest performance here”, he said before ending his speech.
