Angolan Embassy prepares conditions for Electoral Registration

Africa-Press – Angola. The Embassy of Angola in the Arab Republic of Egypt is preparing the conditions for the implementation of the In-person Electoral Registration of Angolan citizens residing in Cairo, similarly to what happened in Portugal and South Africa, for the elections in August this year.

In an interview , in Cairo, Ambassador Nelson Cosme revealed that the diplomatic mission controls 200 Angolan citizens in Egypt, most of them young people, aged between 18 and 50 years old.

“Very clear guidelines were passed to embassies in the diaspora, including ours, here in Egypt. Thus, the conditions are created and we already have the process underway to achieve this goal”, he said.

Speaking of specific dates, Nelson Cosme pointed to March and April as the most likely for the registration to take place.

“Angolans residing in Cairo are students and professionals working in multinational companies in Egypt, linked to Oil and Gas, employees of CAF (African Football Confederation), etc., without forgetting the children of Angolan diplomats”, underlined the ambassador.

cooperation agreements

In the scope of bilateral relations between the two countries, according to the Angolan diplomat, Egypt intends to increase cooperation in several domains.

The emphasis is on Health, training of staff in the areas of Sports, Engineering, Technologies, Tourism, Energy, Oil and Gas. Agriculture in desert areas and Defense Industries are also potential areas of cooperation, taking into account that the Egypt has added value in terms of expertise in these sectors.

According to the diplomat, Angola and Egypt will soon sign, in Cairo, several cooperation agreements, within the scope of the Bilateral Commission, to strengthen relations between the two countries. He reiterated that the Angolan Embassy is preparing all the conditions for the reception of the Angolan delegation, which will be headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António.

“Angola and Egypt have currently signed the General Cooperation Agreement in the Technical, Cultural and Scientific field. They have already been updated and will be subject to adjustment, during the visit of the Bilateral Commission. We also have signed agreements on the abolition of visas in diplomatic passports between the two countries”, explained Nelson Cosme.

The ambassador stressed that cooperation between the two countries “includes the scope of political and diplomatic consultations, as well as sectoral agreements, in the field of Sports, Transport, Agriculture, Health, combating malaria, basic sanitation and the textile industry”.

Angola has Egypt’s support in relation to current reforms, especially the fight against corruption and money laundering. This circumstance clearly favors the business environment and, as a result, according to Ambassador Nelson Cosme, “there are great Egyptian businessmen working in Angola”.

“There are also strong Angolan businessmen, who are establishing partnerships with their counterparts in Egypt. We hope that, on the next visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Egypt, the business side will follow the pace of growth that has been registered in terms of politics”, augured.

The Arab Republic of Egypt was one of the first countries to open an Embassy in Angola, in 1976, after the proclamation of National Independence, on 11 November 1975.

Cooperation and coordination with African movements fighting to achieve complete independence for the continent was one of the priorities on Egypt’s political agenda, which led to the opening of the MPLA office in Cairo in 1965.
