
Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, begins today a 48-hour working visit to the city of Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, where, among other activities, she will preside over the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Multisectoral Commission for Safeguarding the World Cultural Heritage.
According to the press release the Vice-President of the Republic’s program includes an assessment of the current state of monuments and sites in the province, the analysis of proposals for the International Festival of Culture (FestiKongo) and the Commission’s action plan for this year (2023).
Aspects linked to the implementation of the recommendations of the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) on the Mbanza Kongo Management Plan and visits to places of interest to the Commission are also part of the work agenda.
The Commission, updated by Presidential Dispatch no 93/23, of 3 May, according to the communiqué, intends to ensure the development of identified actions, with a view to preserving, valuing and managing Cultural Heritage, based on international conventions and treaties on the matter to which Angola is a party, namely the Convention on World Cultural and Natural Heritage, approved in 1972 at the General Conference of UNESCO.
The promotion and implementation of conservation programs and the participatory management of heritage, as well as the need to adopt special measures to accompany the National Cultural Heritage of exceptional universal value are among the attributions of the Multisectoral Commission, created under Presidential Order No. /18, March 5th. The governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, upon officially announcing the visit of the Vice-President of the Republic to the province, called on citizens to flock to the local airport to welcome the illustrious visitor. “We want the population to be present at the airport to welcome the Vice President of the Republic.
He also referred that the re-inauguration of the Comandante Bula Cultural Centre, rehabilitated and equipped by the Angola LNG company, within the scope of social responsibility, will have a greater impact on the lives of all culture makers in Zaire province and beyond.
The general program also includes, for the first day, visits to Lumbu (Customary Court) and to the Historic Centre, while, tomorrow, the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, will visit the old Cathedral Kulumbimbi, the works construction of the new Mbanza Kongo Nimi airport to Lukeni and the completion work on the General Hospital of Mbanza Kongo, whose delivery, of the latter, is scheduled for the month of August this year.
