Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, said Wednesday in Mbanza Kongo that the future General Hospital of Zaire, under construction in this city, will bring enormous benefits to the population, due to the diversified services provided.
When summing up his 48-hour working visit to Zaire, Esperança da Costa said that it was a work in full development, a reference hospital that will have different means of diagnosis to provide better service to the population.
The Regional Hospital of Zaire will have four operating rooms and six wards, providing services in physiotherapy, hemodialysis, imaging, neonatal care, pediatrics, maternity and therapeutic diagnosis, among others.
Speaking to the press, after an inspection visit to the construction works of the aforementioned hospital, the Vice-President of the Republic stated that with its entry into operation, the population of Zaire will have quality and humanized care.
Launched in 2014, construction work on this imposing three-story building, with a capacity of 318 beds, resumed in June 2022 and should be completed within a period of 15 months.
The infrastructure is located on the outskirts of the city of Mbanza Kongo and occupies an area of 27 thousand square meters, whose budget is estimated at USD 87 million and 850 thousand, with the company VAMED being responsible for completing the work.
FESTIKONGO resumes three years later
The Vice-President of the Republic announced the holding, this year, of the Kongo International Culture Festival (FESTIKONGO), in its third edition, in Mbanza Kongo, three years later, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This year, FESTIKONGO will be held, now that there is already here, in Mbanza Kongo, a unit with impact for this type of event. I am referring to the Comandante Bula cultural and recreational center ”, he stressed.
He explained that, in the coming days, the Participatory Management Committee of the Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo will define the new format of this cultural event and the period of the year for its realization.
As for the new Mbanza Kongo airport, under construction in the commune of Nkiende, which is 32 kilometers from the city of Mbanza Kongo, whose works were also confirmed, Esperança da Costa said that the works were proceeding normally, according to an explanation provided on the ground.
In Mbanza Kongo, the Vice-President of the Republic carried out an intense day of work, with emphasis on holding the 1st Ordinary Session of the Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of the World Cultural Heritage and the reopening of the Comandante Bula cultural centre.
