Africa-Press – Angola. Around 400 million kwanzas is the record turnover resulting from the fifth edition of the Agricultural Fair of Benguela province, held from 19 to 21 May.
According to the organization, it is the highest value ever and represents a growth of over 50 percent compared to the 2022 fair, whose expected turnover, in the order of more than 200 million kwanzas, was slightly below estimates.
The information was supplied by the spokesman for the Agricultural Fair of Benguela province, Victor Panzo, noting that this turnover is the result, among others, of the auction of around 300 heads of cattle, including cattle, goats and sheep, including horses and ornamental birds, which contributed with 75 million and 513 thousand kwanzas.
In an interview, he also referred to the sale of agricultural products, namely seeds, cereals, legumes, vegetables and citrus fruits, including machines – tractors, implements, motor cultivators and irrigation systems -, in addition to fishing products, salt industry and services of restoration.
Cattle auction at the top of the fair
That person in charge puts at the top of the agenda of the recently ended Benguela Agricultural Fair the cattle auction, with approximately 300 heads, mainly bovine of various breeds, with emphasis on the Brahman, of high fertility, being originally from the United States of America.
That is why he revealed that the sale of cattle alone yielded 70 million and 33 thousand kwanzas, with the remaining value being the result of transactions related to the purchase of goats, sheep, horses and two very popular ornamental birds, namely “a peacock couple”.
In all, more than 250 exhibitors participated, including 40 animal breeders, farmers and agricultural cooperatives from the provinces of Benguela, Namibe, Huíla, Cunene, Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte and Luanda, along with international guests from Namibia, South Africa and a delegation from Coppex Agropecuária, from France.
According to Victor Panzo, Coppex Agropecuária represents the biggest animal breeders and milk producers in that country, in Western Europe, hence the importance of its participation in this fair, for possible business partnerships with Angolans.
These were joined, on the other hand, by 400 animal breeders from various parts of the country, with emphasis on the Center-South region, but only as visitors, who even took the opportunity to exchange contacts and experiences with the exhibitors.
For the spokesperson, another positive point of this fair was the participation of agricultural producers from the ten municipalities of Benguela province, in addition to banking, some catering companies and technology services in the agribusiness sector coming from other parts of the country.
“We left here satisfied because we managed to achieve the objective of bringing together several companies from different sectors in a single space and showing the potential of Benguela province and others in the Center-South region of the country”, he stressed.
With that, the representative of the Cooperative of Benguela Livestock Breeders (CCGB), as the organizing entity, thanks the Provincial Government of Benguela for the support provided and all the partners that make this organization possible.
Already thinking about the sixth edition, in 2024, Victor Panzo talks about good indicators, so that the Benguela Agricultural Fair continues to meet the objectives outlined, improving more and more and helping the sustainable growth of companies in the sector in the Center-South region of Angola .
Held next to the National Stadium of Ombaka, as part of the festivities of the 406 of the city of Benguela, completed on the 17th of May, the Agricultural Fair of Benguela is an organization of the Cooperative of Cattle Breeders of Benguela (CCGB), integrated in the National Federation of Angola Livestock Cooperatives (FENACOPA).
