Africa-Press – Angola. The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and coordinator of the Southern Judiciary Region, Hernâni Beira Grande, is assessing since Tuesday, the level of functioning of the services of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in Cunene province.
Upon his arrival, the magistrate held a private meeting with the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa.
Speaking to the press, the magistrate said that it was a follow-up visit to Cunene in the capacity of accompanying coordinator, in order to work with the justice administration bodies, to assess the level of functioning of the PGR in this region.
According to the magistrate, the work serves to understand how the PGR is working, its organization and to find the points of convergence between one and another province.
He stressed that the intention is to level the ways of operation, treatment of human resources and evaluation of magistrates, in order to standardize some procedures of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Hernâni Beira Grande said that the problem of the PGR is cyclical, stressing that the region has an insufficient number of magistrates, which will be improved in the coming days with the entry into operation of newly trained magistrates.
The five-day journey includes separate meetings with judges, the interior delegate and visits to police facilities, the Criminal Investigation Services, as well as trips to the municipalities of Namacunde, Cuvelai, Ombadja, Cahama and Curoca.
The magistrate will also travel to the Peu Peu prison, where he will hold a consultation meeting with the penal population.
