Military attaches from Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Congo, Zimbabwe and South Africa, accredited in Angola, praised the level of implementation of new social equipment in Menongue, within the scope of the implementation of the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) and other international cooperation.
Speaking to the press, the president of the Association of Military Attachés Accredited in Angola, Brazilian Colonel Helton Andrade, said that it was possible to gauge the great attention that the government has given to the local population, with the construction of social infrastructures to prevent move to other locations in the country.
“We believe that the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), through the Command of the 5th Division of the Southern Military Region, has participated in the demining process, through a military engineering team, allowing peasant families to invest in agriculture and the government to carry out actions social,” he pointed out.
According to the official, through cooperation between Brazil and Angola, it is possible to exchange experiences in the transposition of rivers, in the dry season, such as what is happening in Cunene, whose company is SinoHidro, a Chinese company, to help the natural calamity , with a view to promoting agriculture.
The attachés, who ended their two-day visit to Cuando Cubango this Friday, held a courtesy meeting with the municipal administrator of Menongue, José Ernesto da Silva, who informed the members of the delegation of the ongoing execution of 11 projects of the PIIM, of the 12 approved, one of which has already been completed, specifically the medical center in Comuna do Caiundo.
Eight lines of social projects, out of the 10 initially approved, were also implemented in this financial year, within the scope of improving basic social conditions for the municipality’s population, estimated at 404,104 inhabitants.
The administrator considered the visit of the attachés productive, as it was possible to clarify the processes under way to improve the lives of the populations, from peasant women, through support in agricultural inputs, creation of initiatives for young people for entrepreneurship, as well as demining for agriculture, and in this last area the attachés expressed interest in exchanging experiences.
The military attachés, accompanied by the administrator of Menongue, noted the works in progress in the centrality of Tucuve, with 14 buildings for 112 apartments with shops and social services, in a first phase, whose works, in charge of the national company Grinner, could be finished in the first half of 2024.
The entourage of attaches learned about the state of operation of the Command of the 5th Division of the Angolan Armed Forces, where they received, from second brigadier commander Lucas Francisco, the combat readiness of the troops, their engagement in the demining process and their participation in tasks state social services, with emphasis on the transport of various goods to the interior of the province, in cases of natural calamities.
The movement of people and goods through the Moçâmedes Railway, connecting Menongue/Natália (Huíla) to Namibe, with six weekly trains for the transport of 1,200 passengers, that of various goods, was verified “in loco” by the attachés, alongside the Missombo hatchery center.
