Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) promoted, this Friday, in the municipality of Ombadja, province of Cunene, an action to listen and raise awareness among community leaders and administrative authorities, with the aim of raising the legal awareness of citizens.
The session was chaired by the coordinator of the Southern Judiciary Region, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Hernâni Beira Grande, who highlighted the role of the prosecution in guaranteeing the defense of citizens’ rights, acting in accordance with the law.
Accordingly, he said that the PGR has been developing civic education actions, with a pedagogical nature, in order to raise knowledge levels.
The magistrate considered it essential to instill legal awareness in citizens, with the help of the media, to avoid committing crimes.
He considered positive the consultation meeting with the municipal council, where some concerns of the traditional authorities were raised.
For her part, the municipal administrator of Ombadja, Elizeth Mwamelungi, praised the action of the PGR which, despite the difficulties of various kinds, has stood out in promoting and guaranteeing justice and monitoring the legality of criminal processes that are registered in the district.
Despite the lack of a Court in the locality, he clarified that the PGR has carried out its functions in conjunction with other security bodies, in the defense and protection of the interests of citizens.
The administrator spoke of the approval, in the General State Budget for 2023, of the project to conclude the works on the Palace of Justice in Xangongo, which will allow for greater dignity to be given to the administration of justice bodies in the district.
The theft and theft of cattle, land conflicts, family inheritance and the proliferation of religious sects were the concerns presented at the event.
With a universe of 394 thousand and 964 inhabitants, the municipality of Ombadja is 98 kilometers from the city of Ondjiva and includes the communes of Xangongo (headquarters), Humbe, Naulila, Mucope and Ombala yo Mungo.
