Luanda has 75 voter registration posts

Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Luanda has 75 One-Stop Public Service Desks (BUAP) for the Official Electoral Registration, informed, Tuesday (22), the deputy governor for the Political and Social Sector, DionĂsio da Fonseca, for whom the number is satisfactory for the modernization and simplification of the August general elections.

Speaking at a methodological meeting that aimed to discuss, evaluate and analyze the execution and functioning of the BUAP in the municipality of Cazenga, he highlighted that the 75 existing ones are in full operation. Even so, more operators are expected to be trained and trained to reinforce the BUAP’s intervention in the municipalities with the greatest demand, such as Cacuaco, Viana, Kilamba Kiaxi and Cazenga.

The great challenge of the voter registration, he recalled, is to ensure that all citizens over 18 years of age have their Identity Card and, through this, go to the existing BUAP in administrations, urban districts, communes and municipalities to update their residences.

“There is a paradigm shift. In the past, there were mobile brigades. Today, citizens must go to the administrations to (if they have changed residence) to update the respective electoral registers, in order to exercise their right to vote as close as possible to their homes”, he compared.

DionĂsio da Fonseca said that there was a process of raising awareness and mobilizing the population for a massive adhesion to the electoral registration process. The priority, he underlined, is youth, as there is a considerable number of young people who, since the last election, have reached the age of majority and need to be informed about a process of democratic strengthening.

“This week, we are going to hold a meeting with this segment of society, especially those who attend secondary education, in order to ensure that they are an active participant in the process”, he announced.
