Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of UNITA in Cuanza Sul, Armando Kaquepa, defended, this Tuesday, in Sumbe, greater rigor in the inspection of public works in progress in the region, in order to avoid the completion of poor quality infrastructure and little durability.

The provincial secretary of UNITA, who was speaking at a press conference, welcomed the fact that Cuanza Sul benefited from several works included in the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), thus justifying the need for greater supervision with a view to to meet the expectations of the populations.

“Many works at provincial level start at an acceptable pace, but sometimes they are not concluded in a positive way, which is why UNITA wants serious supervision and that contractors who do not comply with what is stipulated in the contract are held accountable in court” , he stressed.

On the occasion, the politician highlighted the need to increase funds from the General State Budget (OGE) for the province, in order to allow the resolution of the main problems that afflict the population.

“The OGE budget allocated to the province is derisory, as most municipalities are struggling with a lack of drinking water and electricity, as well as schools and hospitals”, he stressed.

However, within the framework of improving the living conditions of the population of Cuanza Sul, the Angolan Executive has already gone from a budget of 110,516,660,875.00 kwanzas, in the year 2022, to the current Kz 147,195,878,046.00.

On the other hand, Armando Kaquepa denounced, without naming names, the existence of private companies, in the municipality of Porto-Amboim, that have systematically violated the rights of their workers, requesting an inspection by the competent bodies.

“We have verified the existence of some private companies whose owners, mostly foreign citizens, have violated human rights and must be inspected”, he added.

A group of MPLA MPs started yesterday, in the province of Cuando Cubango, a program of inspection of works of the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), to assess the degree of execution in the nine municipalities.

There are 76 projects, valued at more than 36 billion kwanzas, 65 of which are already underway.

Of this number, 50 will be inaugurated by the end of next June.

Deputies are X-raying social equipment under construction, expansion and equipping, such as schools, health units, energy systems, drinking water, cattle vaccination sleeves, technical-professional training centres, among others.

Speaking to the press, the coordinator of the Follow-up Group of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA in Cuando Cubango, Maricel Capama, said that the eight deputies are distributed to verify the ongoing works in the different municipalities of the province, which aim to improve the quality of life of the population.

The one-week program includes listening to the social consultation councils, with a view to finding out about the real problems that most affect them, receiving opinions for an appropriate solution, to be presented to the National Assembly.

Maricel Capama said that the deputies will also verify the current real functioning of the existing health units in the municipalities, among other social sectors, with the purpose of assessing the main difficulties that the citizens face.
