Africa-Press – Angola. 317,000 vulnerable families were assisted across the country, as part of the implementation of the “Kwenda” Social Monetary Transfer program, said today, in Luena, Moxico province, the general director of the Local Development Institute, Belarmino Jelembi .
According to the official, who was speaking during a meeting with journalists from this region, from 2021 to the present date, 33 billion, 163 million and 56 thousand kwanzas have already been transferred to vulnerable families.
He stressed that, currently, the program is being implemented in nine thousand and 397 villages, 214 communes and 61 municipalities in the country, foreseeing to benefit a universe of one million and 610 thousand and 382 vulnerable households.
He reaffirmed that the value of the program is paid quarterly in three ways, namely by cash (physical money), ATM and mobile money, corresponding to four installments, over a period of one year.
In this sense, he announced that, soon, there will be an increase in the value of assistance per household, from 25,500 kwanzas per quarter to 33,000 kwanzas.
The official highlighted that the implementation of the program has made it possible to increase the purchasing and financial capacity of the neediest families, in addition to helping to establish a National Social Protection System.
According to the official, the Local Development Institute, within the scope of the Productive Inclusion programme, is also supporting 15,348 people with the distribution of seeds, agricultural inputs, installation of solar panels, poultry farming, transport, among others.
On the initiative of the Government of Angola, the KWENDA program aims to support one million and 608 thousand families in situations of poverty and vulnerability in the country.
It has funding of USD 320 million from the World Bank (BM) and USD 100 million from the National Treasury (Angola), totaling USD 420 million.
The Program is operated by the Local Development Institute (FAS), a government agency that, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.
