Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, expressed Monday, in Huambo, his desire to run for a second term in office, during the next congress, scheduled for 2025.

The supporter expressed this wish during a political event, which marked the beginning of his five-day workday in Huambo province.

Adalberto Costa Júnior was elected president of UNITA, in December 2021, during the XIII Congress.

Without further details, he said he hopes that the next UNITA congress will have the participation of other competitors, so that it is a more plural and democratic dispute.

“We are not afraid of competing with other candidates, our expectation is that the 2025 congress will have a democratic plurality and be transparent”, he stressed.

According to the politician, the winner of this conclave, to be democratically and transparently elected by the militants, will be responsible for implementing the UNITA program, revised and outlined for the period 2027-2040, thus translating a vision of far-reaching for the country, with a focus on promoting an Angola of dignity, modernity and well-being.

He stated that the updates carried out allowed the design of several short and medium term projects, with emphasis on the need to dialogue with the Angolan Government, in order to implement, next year, the Local Authorities, as they constitute a factor of promotion of Angola’s development.

On the occasion, Adalberto Costa Júnior defended the permanent dialogue between political parties, religious institutions and society in general, in order to analyze the country’s problems and solutions.

He reiterated UNITA’s favorable position on the gradual withdrawal of fuel subsidies, but defended the creation of economic policies that guarantee the stability of citizens’ lives.

In five days of work in the Central Plateau, Adalberto Costa Júnior will hold meetings, separately, with members of the Government of Huambo, religious entities and traditional authorities, in addition to traveling to the municipalities of Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chinjenje and Ucuma, where he will maintain contact with his party’s militants and members of civil society.
