Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president judge of the Constitutional Court, Victoria Izata, considered, this Friday, that the magna conference, in the context of the 15th anniversary of this superior court, leaves a mark of strengthening of constitutional democracy in Angola.
The magistrate was speaking at the end of the event, underlining that it “opens new windows” so that other topics of paramount importance for the country can be addressed.
In his view, the conference achieved the objectives envisaged and citizens can continue to expect actions, rigor and well-considered decisions from the Constitutional Court, which are in line with the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
The main meeting, divided into two panels, dealt with the role of the TC and the mechanisms that this body has to carry out its activities and perform the role of guardian of the Constitution.
The interventions, in each lecture, led the participants to reflect on the institution’s past, present and future.
When lecturing the theme Constitutional Court:
Needs that determined its institutionalization, the retired Luzia Sebastião made an incursion on the institutionalization of this court and transmitted her experience as a counselor judge.
In turn, professor Rui Medeiro established similarities and differences between the legal figures “amparo appeal and the extraordinary appeal of unconstitutionality”, leaving notes on their applicability and their importance for the guarantees of law and fundamental freedoms.
The speaker Dalvan Costa highlighted the need for professionals to carry out the inspection of constitutionality and the importance of the extraordinary appeal of unconstitutionality in the Angolan legal system.
The event ended with an approach to the theme The challenges of the Constitutional Court as a human rights court, whose lecturer, lawyer Benja Satula, turned his communication, among other aspects, to the need to assess the interpretation of functional norms that can effectively guarantee the social function for human rights.
Judicial Magistrates and Public Ministry, members of the national academic class and politicians participated in the meeting.
As part of the commemorations of the 15th year of existence of the Constitutional Court, which will run until the 30th of this month, a photographic exhibition was opened that portrays key moments in its history and the launch of a scientific magazine is expected, as well as the opening to the public for visits, in order to find out about the functioning of the institution over time.
