Africa-Press – Angola. The withdrawal of Real Santo António da Lunda Sul from the Girabola2023/24 qualification zone, announced on Sunday, complicated the objectives of Ferrovia do Huambo to return to the competition, two years later.

The “locomotives”, leaders of the zonal series B, wasted, on Sunday, the possibility of qualifying, in advance, for the National Football Championship of the I division, when they tied, in the city of Cuito, province of Bié, with Recreativo da Nharea, by 1-1, in a scoring match on the 8th round, totaling 17 points.

The withdrawal of Real Santos from Lunda Sul, announced by the management of the sports association, for administrative reasons, was confirmed, this Monday, by the president of the Technical Sports Council of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), José Neves.

As a result of this withdrawal, the FAF, in accordance with its regulations, will withdraw three points from Ferrovia do Huambo, the only team that played and won against Saurimo’s team, in connection with the 3-0 victory in the seventh round. journey.

The Planalto Central team, which will now have 14 points, with just one game to go, of the two remaining days, is prohibited from losing in its trip to Malanje, next Sunday, to face the local Union, referring to the 10th and their last match in the competition.

The group from the land of Palanca Negra Gigante, ranked third, with nine points, has the possibility of ascending to the leadership of the series, if it wins the two games that still have to be played, which could make it difficult for Ferrovia to achieve its objectives of returning to Girabola.

In the game of the first round, referring to the 5th round, the two teams (Ferrovia do Huambo and União de Malanje) drew 3-3.

The results of the first round, in which Santo António da Lunda Sul lost everyone, will remain unchanged, as they have already been approved by the FAF.

Ferrovia do Huambo, which was relegated from Girabola, in the 2020/2021 season, due to a disciplinary sanction, due to the Vingumba case, after having ascended to this level of national football, for the first time, in the 2018/2019 season.

Ferrovia do Huambo was founded on December 1, 1930. In the mid-1970s, the oldest association in the province of Huambo played football, basketball, handball, athletics, table tennis, swimming, tennis field, chess and clay pigeon shooting.

The club has sports infrastructures, such as a football stadium, the mythical “Campo dos Kurikutelas”, basketball court, handball, volleyball, tennis and clay pigeon shooting field, Olympic swimming pool, training centre, restaurant, cinema room and event hall.
