Africa-Press – Angola. The musician and composer Gabriel Tchiema recommended, this Tuesday, in Luena, eastern Moxico province, that artists from the east of the country opt for in-depth research into the habits and customs of the region, for a better selection and composition of musical themes.
Speaking to the press, as part of the preparation of the 1st East Regional Music and Dance Festival “Ngeya”, he said that it is necessary for artists to improve their research, focusing on social, cultural and reflective content to guarantee originality in music.
In this sense, he suggested a bet on styles typical of the region, such as Makopo, Tchianda, Cassekumuna among others, thus avoiding alienation and a taste for foreign trends.
“Today, people prefer to “copy-paste” foreign music, such as the Naija style, for example, when we have, in the region, several genres that can be used and mixed for the enjoyment of the country”, he added.
For this, he continued, it is necessary to be rigorous and perspicacious in the composition and elaboration of musical contents, for the enhancement of the region’s culture.
On the holding of the 1st Regional Dance and Music Festival “Ngeya, Pedro Capumba, Coordinator of the event that will bring together 126 artists, from the 23rd to the 24th of the current month, said that all artists are already mobilized for this moment of euphoria, which will serve to highlight the dimension of the culture of the east of the country.
In addition to music and dancing, the event will be marked by an exhibition of culinary products, a handicraft fair, a moment of reflection on the current state of culture in the region.
The “Ngeya” festival, an initiative of the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, within the scope of the social responsibility programme, will take place at the Monumento à Paz tourist complex, in the city of Luena.
The event will bring together several artists, and the province of Moxico (host) will be represented with the groups Nejas, Ihalo, Marimba Kayowe, as well as Wino Wa Tembo and Nhamusso, while Lunda Sul will participate with Zango Tchissela, Mba Heza Mitingui and Kulimuka Tchiyanda.
The province of Lunda Norte will be present with the groups Txako Txa Utxokwe, Mwesseke Utalé and Maringa do 1o de Maio.
The project was launched on an experimental basis, in June 2022, in the province of Lunda Norte.
