Africa-Press – Angola. Sociedade Mineira de Catoca will continue to work on the preservation and enhancement of the national cultural heritage, reaffirmed, Saturday, in Luena, Moxico province, the director of Planning and Control at the company, Marçal Vigário.

Speaking about the 1st Music and Dance Festival of the East region of Angola, held from the 23rd to the 24th of this month, in the city of Luena, Marçal Vigário said that the company will continue to work with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and with the provincial governments to the valorization and promotion of the national culture, in particular the tchokwe, in order to recover the practices and other fundamental elements of the region.

The initiative, according to the official, will allow the harmonious transition of the cultural traits of the people of the east to the new generations, in addition to honoring cultural actors through the promotion of intercultural dialogue.

On his turn, the national director of Communities and Institution of Traditional Power of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Alberto Kafuna, stated that since the times of Mwatchiava and Lukotcheca, the Lunda-Tchokwe region has always had a great emphasis on community culture, in terms of concerns the preservation of habits, customs and traditions.

He added that the ancestors were never forgotten, as they always transmitted their teachings to future generations through dance and songs, such as Tchianda, Tchissela, Kalukuta, Kandowa, Makopo, Maringa, Kandjendje and Likembe.

The official praised the initiative of the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca to create the mass festival, which aims to rescue, preserve and enhance the national culture and that of the eastern region of the country.

Moxico’s vice-governor for the Technical Sector and Infrastructure, Wilson Augusto, considered the province hosting the 1st edition of the Ngeya Festival “a reason for satisfaction”, which enhances the diversity of culture and national wealth of the eastern region.

Eleven groups comprising 126 members from the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul participated in the 1st edition of the East Ngeya Regional Music and Dance Festival.
