Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly of Angola, Carolina Cerqueira, will participate, starting this Thursday, in Lisbon, in the celebrations of the International Day of Parliamentaryism.
Carolina Cerqueira, who arrived in the Portuguese capital on Wednesday, will make a speech on Friday at the second official session at the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal.
During his two-day stay in Portugal and as part of the official program of celebrations, receptions will be offered by the mayors of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, and Sintra, Basílio Horta.
The International Day of Parliamentarianism is celebrated annually on the 30th of June and corresponds to the date of creation of the Interparliamentary Union in 1889, an organization that embraces all Parliaments.
This year’s theme is “Parliaments for the Planet” and aimed at mobilizing parliaments and parliamentarians to act on the climate emergency.
The date was proclaimed through Resolution 72/278 adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 22 May 2018.
