Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan government has been promoting initiatives for institutional and legal recognition of the authority of traditional power.

The information was provided this Thursday by the assistant administrator for the Technical and Infrastructure area of ​​the municipality of Cuanhama (Cunene), Jackson Sakatu, during a meeting of traditional authorities (sobas) aimed at analyzing their role and challenges in the processes community leadership and municipalities.

He said that the initiatives are aimed at strengthening the role of traditional authorities in communities.

“The Ministry of Culture continues to make efforts, at a time when it has already presented the proposal for a Law on Traditional Authorities, an instrument that reinforces its role in the community and in the State itself”, he explained.

He reported that this ministerial department had scheduled a national meeting of traditional authorities, to present new perspectives for approaching the figure of the soba in their area of ​​jurisdiction.

Therefore, Jackson Sakatu encouraged participants to deepen the debate on this topic, in order to take greater advantage and produce constructive conclusions and recommendations for the national meeting.

Lasting one day, today’s event brings together representatives from the communes of Oshimolo, Ondjiva, Mongua, Nehone and Evale, in an initiative of the municipal administration of Cuanhama.

It addresses topics such as the strategic plan on the participation of traditional institutions in the organization of local power, preservation of local customs and the challenges for the development of tourism, lineage and the problem of succession.

The municipality of Cuanhama, seat of the province of Cunene, has 360 thousand and 491 inhabitants.
