Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, considered yesterday, the 4th of July, a memorable day for Angola, as he opened his doors to regional integration through the Lobito Corridor.

In a publication on his personal Facebook account, the Head of State underlined the fact that the Lobito Corridor is a set of infrastructures that will speed up commercial transactions between neighboring countries and the world.

According to the President, the Benguela Railway and the Port of Lobito will serve as a “regional hub”, especially for Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), generating more jobs for youth and income for the country.

The act of transferring the concession of rail services and logistics to support the Lobito Corridor to the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium takes place , in the city of the same name, in the province of Benguela.

To witness the transfer of the concession, along with President João Lourenço, are the counterparts from Zambia, Hakainde Hichilerma, and from the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi.

The Lobito Atlantic Railway, the consortium considered the winner of the international tender for operating the Corridor, on November 4, 2022, is formed by the companies Trafigura, Vecturis and Mota-Engil.

The consortium plans to increase daily frequency to 50 trains over a period of 30 years and guarantee 1,600 direct jobs.

It will be responsible for transporting large loads, such as minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, as well as maintaining infrastructure (workshops, the railway line).

Privately managed, the Lobito Corridor includes the Port of Lobito, the Mineiro Terminal, the Catumbela Airport and the Benguela Railway.
