Africa-Press – Angola. Journalist and researcher Guilherme Martins won, Monday, in Saurimo, the first edition of the provincial prize for culture and arts in Lunda Sul, in the category of literature and scientific research.
In a competition in which 260 competitors participated, as part of the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the division of the Lundas, with the work “História e Identidade Cokwe”, the author received a prize of one million kwanzas, a diploma of merit and a statuette of Mwana Pwô.
In the visual and plastic art category, the artist Zacarias Daniel won, having won one million kwanzas, a diploma of merit, while in music and event promotion, Albano Txissanguino and Óscar Txipema were classified, both pocketing one million kwanzas each, diplomas of merit.
In the category of best “disco joker” won José Vieira, taking home one million kwanzas, diploma of merit and statuette of Mwana Pwô and traditional games. Alberto Saluchico won a million, certificate and statuette.
The president of the jury, Daniel Macai, said that it was difficult to find the winners, because almost all of them presented good works, but only eight stood out.
He underlined that the jury’s evaluation criteria were creativity, honesty, theme, quality, originality, moral education and perspicacity in the investigation of the contents.
He appealed to the artists to revitalize the dances and rescue the Cokwe identity, as well as to value the language itself.
Guilherme Martins said that, with the amount raised, he would continue the research work on the identity of the Cokwe culture, as well as seek to immortalize everything that the ancestors left as a legacy.
He underlined the need for other young people to write books on the local cultural identity so that future generations can be repercussions and not be distracted in acts that in no way promote social coexistence between peoples.
In turn, the governor of Lunda Sul, Daniel Neto, said that the Government will continue to hold the event annually, with a view to valuing artists and promoting Cokwe culture.
He called for the commitment of all civil society actors with regard to the development of the province, to overcome the challenges and achieve the excellence that everyone wants to aspire to.
He recognized that there is much work to be done, with emphasis on improving tertiary and secondary roads, building more schools, health units, training human resources, among other sectors.
The award recognizes the actions of young people in the fields of social and economic life in the country, in particular in Lunda Sul, in the categories of Literature, Plastic Arts, Theatre, Dance, Music, Event Promotion, DJs, and Scientific Research .
The 45th anniversary of the division of Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte, in 1978, to be celebrated on the 4th of this month, honors the figure of Mwana Pwô, as a symbol of beauty and female ancestry of Cokwe culture and identity.
