Africa-Press – Angola. Angola appeals to the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) to meet Member States to make a deep reflection in order to improve strategies aimed at including youth in decision-making processes, social inclusion and economic integration national, regional and continental.

Speaking yesterday, at the CPS session dedicated to the topic of youth, peace and security in Africa, the charge d’affaires of the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia in Permanent Representation to the AU, Coutinho Viquissi Copumi, underlined that young people make up two thirds of the population of the continent, which is why they deserve special attention.

“For lack of opportunities or perspective on life, “caravans” of young people risk their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea looking for opportunities in Europe, on a journey in which some die and the survivors end up being victims of modern slavery because of precarious jobs. to which they are subjected”, he warned.

The diplomat added that “another part of this youth has been mobilized by agents of terrorism and violent extremism, that is, recruited and radicalized to spread death and destruction in regions such as the Sahel, Lake Chad, Horn of Africa and Northern Mozambique. , among others”.

He said that Member States should prevent youth from being mobilized to further exacerbate the already existing focuses of political tension or military conflicts, whose consequences could be incalculable and jeopardize the peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Africa that is sought.

Coutinho Copumi stated that Angola is in line with the aspirations of the AU’s Agenda 2063, citing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in stating that “young people do not destroy, but build; they built our Independence, they built peace and reconciliation and are today building Angola’s infrastructure and future”.

He recalled that in November, the Angolan Government, in partnership with the African Union and UNESCO, organized the 2nd Edition of the Luanda Biennale, the Pan-African Forum for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace in Africa, with a view to contributing to silence of weapons on the continent.
