Africa-Press – Angola. The Municipal Hospital of Quibala, province of Cuanza-Sul, will improve patient care, with the installation of new services in the areas of physiotherapy, stomatology, infirmary and conservation of corpses (new morgue).

The municipal director of Health, Francisco Martins, explained yesterday that the hospital, to be reopened soon, benefited from more service rooms.

Francisco Martins said that, before the rehabilitation, in December 2020, the clinical unit had the services of the emergency, surgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, medicine and maternity bank in spaces and conditions that conditioned the work of technicians.

In addition to a new kitchen service, the hospital will have an expanded pediatric area, which will increase the capacity of beds from 86 to 100.

need for doctors

Although the unit has recently undergone extensive works, the official added that the Municipal Hospital has only four doctors, two of whom are expatriates, a small number to meet the demand of patients who come to the aforementioned health establishment daily.

To minimize this shortage of doctors, Francisco Martins hopes that ten more specialists in pediatrics, general practice, gynecology and obstetrics and surgery will be admitted. In this chapter, the unit would need 20 more nurses to join the more than 60.

With a budget of 22 million kwanzas, the hospital treats an average of 80 patients daily with problems of malaria, acute diarrheal diseases, typhoid fever and causes related to road accidents.

The municipal director of Quibala said that the reopening is just waiting for the equipping and formal delivery of the hospital unit, which also needs ambulances.

The rehabilitation and expansion works were carried out under the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) and cost the State coffers a total of 177,289,429 kwanzas.
