Africa-Press – Angola. The next First Division National Football Championship (Girabola2023/2024) maintains the dispute format, with 16 teams, without the expected implementation of the first football league, much talked about in recent days.

This Monday, in the city of Cuito, Bié province, the members of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) met in an Ordinary General Assembly, which unanimously approved only the admission of the National Association of Angolan Football Clubs Football to the FAF, to work together for the creation of the future league.

“As soon as the legal requirements are fulfilled and the Ministry of Youth and Sports recognizes the professionalism of football, subsequent steps should be taken to comply with the implementation process of the future league, based on football legislation in Angola”, reads if not communicated.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the executive director of ANCAF, Dino Paulo, explained that, with admission, the association becomes a member of the FAF and with legitimacy to advance with certain proposals.

“In fact, this was the first step, towards a hybrid system in the management of national competitions, until a whole process was completed to effectively implement the national football league”, he clarified.

Last July, the ANCAF vice-president, João Lusevikueno, advanced the possibility of Girabola`2023-24 starting in September in a league model, with the name of Liga de Futebol de Angola, but with the organization of the two institutions (ANCAF and FAF), with the second responsible, among other responsibilities, for the Arbitration Council and stadium validation.

It should be recalled that the creation of the Angolan Football League has been considered for more than five years, following which the ANCAF was created, whose members took office in September 2022, led by Alves Simões, former president of Interclube.

The need for a new model of autonomous national competition stems from the need to make the king sport profitable in the country, only possible, according to specialist diagnoses, with clubs that are financially well guaranteed and with sporting quality.

The Ordinary General Assembly of the FAF also recommended that an in-depth study be made of the changes in the dispute for the Girabola qualification competition, with the emergence of a third division, which could start as early as next season or in 2024/2025.

It was also recommended that provincial associations create conditions for the integration of futsal and beach soccer in the FAF calendar.

During the event, the activity reports for 2021, the accounts for 2021, the accounts for the first half of 2022, the activity plan for 2023/2024 and the budget for 2023/2024 were approved.
