Africa-Press – Angola. David Elias, an Interclube athlete, revalidated the title in the senior men’s category of the National Cross-country Championship, which took place, last Saturday, in the perimeter of the forestry polygon of the commune of Palanca, municipality of Humpata, province of Huíla.
With a total of 35 minutes and 47 seconds in the 20 kilometer course, David Elias outperformed the competition. The second position was occupied by Jeremias Candumbo, also from Interclube, followed by Domingos Sanganhali (1º de Agosto).
At the same distance, in women’s, Ernestina Paulino (Interclube) repeated last year’s feat, adding 40 minutes and 47 seconds, seconded by teammate Adelaide Machado. Joana Haleca, assigned to Petro de Luanda, was in the third position. In junior men, André Gabriel (Jamba Sport) won the race, over a distance of eight kilometers, while Avelino Dalton (1º de Agosto) and Zeferino Faria (Jamba Sport) occupied the second and third positions respectively. In women’s, Inácia Kapoko (Benfica do Lubango) rose to first place on the podium, beating Marlene Capoco and Neide Evangelista, all assigned to Benfica do Lubango, in that order.
In male juveniles, Osvaldo Carlos (Interclube da Huíla) won. In the following positions were Marcolino Kanjongo (Inter da Huíla) and Francisco Muteka (Benfica do Lubango).
In the female youth class, Joaquina Base (Santos AI Organizations), Fernanda Mukongo (Benfica do Lubango) and Antónia Lourenço (Petro de Luanda) were the first three classified in this order. By team, in senior men, Interclube won with 14 points, followed by Petro de Luanda and 1º de Agosto, with 33 and 44 points, respectively, while in women, the victory also went to Interclube, with the sum of 14 points. The winners were unanimous in stating that the race served as a preparation, aiming at São Silvestre. The president of the Angolan Athletics Federation, Bernardo João, was satisfied with the results and the way in which the competition took place.
