Africa-Press – Angola. The national territory has a reserve of diamonds of around 150 million carats, said in Luanda, the director of Mining Operations and Management of Holdings at Endiama, Miguel Vemba.

Of the existing reserves, 80% come from primary resources and 20% from alluvial projects, a quantity that, according to indicators, can be sold for 15 to 20 years.

The official, who was speaking during the presentation of the achievements and outlook on the production, marketing and export of diamonds, also mentioned that the diamond subsector benefited from investments in the first and second quarters of 2023, in the order of US$193 million, an increase significant compared to the same period last year.

He explained that Luaxe, a structuring mining project, expected to increase diamond production levels in the country, has an investment of around US$463 million.

The main destinations for diamond exports, in the first half of this year, were the United Arab Emirates, with 65.6%, Belgium, with 29%, with 5.4% being exported to various destinations.

In the same period, Angola sold around 2 million and 933 thousand carats of diamonds at an average price of US$202.61 per carat, which corresponds to a gross value of approximately US$594.17 million.
