FAAND needs two million dollars annually

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND) needs two (2) million US dollars annually to fulfill its development program.

The fact was announced this Thursday, in Luanda, by the president of FAAND, José do Amaral “Maninho”, during a major interview, in which he discussed the state of the sport in the country, to be published in full in the coming days .

Without providing numbers, he said that the federation receives a much lower amount annually from the State and that it has been necessary to resort to sponsorship.

To support his defense, the leader of the most titled sport in Africa (15 achievements in senior women’s competition), argued that handball is practiced throughout the country and with a tendency to increase the number of athletes.

He clarified that, in addition to eight (8) thousand female and five (5) thousand male participants, FAAND’s purpose is to increase the sporting population, but to do so it needs greater financial availability.

“Our annual program brings together internal and international competitions. It also covers support for provincial associations, clubs and groups in need, training for coaches, referees, managers, among other actions,” he said.

The former handball player, who pointed to sport in general and its modality as an important factor in social integration and improving the health of practitioners, recognized that the Angolan State has other priorities, but has still contributed a lot to the development of the sector.
